Advocates for Families First Offers Free Webinar on LGBT Youth : NFAPA Calendar : News & Publications : Nebraska Foster and Adoptive Parent Association

On September 23 at 1 p.m. eastern (noon central, 11 am mountain, and 10 am pacific) Advocates for Families First is hosting a free webinar: Improving Safety, Permanency, and Well-Being for LGBTQ Youth. This informative webinar is for anyone parenting or providing services for children and youth in relative care, foster care, or adoption. Included will be an overview of what we know about:

LGBTQ youth in out-of-home care
the impact of family rejection
their struggle for inclusion and safety when in care
lack of affirming resource families
double-standards applied to behavior, sexuality, etc.
the essential role of support and affirmation in helping youth thrive

The session is presented by Ellen Kahn, director of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Children, Youth & Families Program.

Resource Family Consultants

Our staff includes Resource Family Consultants who specialize in one-on-one relationships, which provide foster parents with emotional encouragement, skill reinforcement, and parenting strategies unique to providing out-of-home care.

Scholarships

The Nebraska Foster & Adoptive Parent Association (NFAPA) offers scholarships to adoptive, foster, guardianship or kinship youth who wish to further their education beyond high school or GED.

Become a Foster Parent

There is an ongoing need in Nebraska for families willing to share their hearts and their homes with children who require temporary foster care. There is also a need for “forever” families for our waiting children, especially teens, who are available for adoption.
