2. WHERE THE MAPP LEADS: A FOSTER CARE AND ADOPTION EXPERIENCE

This meeting provides an overview of a foster care and adoption experience from the perspectives of clients (children and parents), foster parents, adoptive parents, and child welfare workers. Case examples of eight children will be used to help participants consider the safety, well-being and permanence needs of children who have been abused, neglected or maltreated.

Safe Sleep: Every parent, including foster parents, should be aware of the safety measures that can be taken to prevent sudden infant death and the danger of infants sleeping in the same bed with others.

Shaken Baby: Every parent, including foster parents, should be aware of the dangers of shaking an infant/children, rough handing of an infant and the symptoms of shaken baby syndrome.

Information for those in our Foster Parent Pre-Service Training

Resource Family Consultants

Our staff includes Resource Family Consultants who specialize in one-on-one relationships, which provide foster parents with emotional encouragement, skill reinforcement, and parenting strategies unique to providing out-of-home care.

Scholarships

The Nebraska Foster & Adoptive Parent Association (NFAPA) offers scholarships to adoptive, foster, guardianship or kinship youth who wish to further their education beyond high school or GED.

Become a Foster Parent

There is an ongoing need in Nebraska for families willing to share their hearts and their homes with children who require temporary foster care. There is also a need for “forever” families for our waiting children, especially teens, who are available for adoption.
